About Perkins Highway Department
Perkins Township Highway Department does much more than make sure the roads are cleared during the winter months. Did you know, that when the weather is bad, and the police or fire departments need to get to a citizen, they plow the way? The Highway department maintains 42.94 miles of roads in the township. That includes:
- Snow and ice removal
- Aspahlt and concrete repairs
- Storm sewer repairs
- Fall leaf pickup
- Curb repairs
- Pot hole patching
- Tree trimming
- Sign repairs and replacement
- Crack sealing
- Street sweeping
- Berm repairs
The Highway Department also maintains Perkins Township Cemetery and several of the townships parks and they do the road side mowing in the spring, summer, and fall. There are only 10 full time employees, and did you know that they participate in LTAP (Local Technical Assistance Program) classes. The purpose of the LTAP is to translate the latest state-of-the-art technologies in the areas of roads, bridges, safety, regulations and trasportation into practical terms for county, city and township personnel.
